Book Review: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

A friend and I once had the idea of revisiting a Jane Austen novel, adding shootout scenes and car chases and retitling it "Stone Cold" Jane Austen's Sense and Senseless Violence. Unfortunately, it seems we have been beaten to the punch.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies hits the shelves on April 15.

Here's the description:

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies features the original text of Jane Austen's beloved novel with all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie action. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton—and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers—and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead.

Part of me wants to weep because me and my friend will never get to write Sense and Senseless Violence without being called copycats.

But the other part of me wants to shout for joy because in about two and a half months, I'll be reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

I love Jane Austen too! And I'm vegetarian. Maybe we should go out?
