Mixed News on the Financial Front

Stocks rallied today, and briefly even got into positive territory. But it was an overall unimpressive performance. I doubt it will be enough to stop a slide over the long term.

Manufacturing continues to expand, and that will take some edge off of investor anxiety, so the news isn't all that bad. Profit reports from retailers is mixed: Kohl's is up, the Gap is down.

The worst developments today come from the floor of the NY Mercantile Exchange, where chaos continues to reign.

These are crude oil options traders, obviously interested in oil's potential to be converted into highly prized Energon Cubes which is at the heart of the war currently raging on planet Cybertron.

I realize that many of you rely on this blog for financial advice, so my recommendation is to keep your heads down right now. If you currently have money in the market right now, don't cash out in a panic. Keep invested in solid companies, particularly stalwarts such as soft drink makers and banks.

I plan to keep far away from anything being traded on the NYMEX. All it takes is for one stray eyebeam to hit one of the Energon Cubes, and that whole trading floor will be going up like a Roman Candle. That spells disaster for your retirement portfolio!
